Career Coaching

The old formula of working for the same company for 30+ years is no longer valid.

If you’re looking for what’s next, you fall into one of four categories:

  1. You know what you want, but you’re having a hard time taking things to the next level.
  2. You don’t know what you want, but for sure where you are isn’t it.
  3. You’re relatively satisfied with your career, but you’d like to pivot toward something with more personal meaning.
  4. You’re no longer interested in working for others and want to create your own thing.

“makes you think beyond and after the conversation”

The entire coaching session was very well organized. Paul has a rich experience in many aspects of life, and his point of view can often points you to another direction which you didn’t think of before but as soon as you heard it you know that’s true. Paul is a very good listener and responder. His point of view makes you think beyond and after the conversation.

“a wealth of experience from a broad array of professional pursuits and personal endeavors”

I was looking for a change and more fulfillment when I sought a life coach. I did some coaching a few years back on the recommendation of a friend. It was a bit too much theory and very systematic. Paul’s approach has so far been more natural. He has a wealth of experience from a broad array of professional pursuits and personal endeavors that provides a richness to his coaching. He uses excellent communication skills to identify and listen to what I share. Importantly, he gives me the space to express all the things that I otherwise may not express to friends or family. He’s given me perspective on relationships that have been problematic and helped me to explore self-doubt and other sand bags holding me down. The “homework” is tangible and relevant. Many folks I talk to about my experience are very curious, and some of them are seeking their own coaches and/or the resources he’s recommended. I would recommend Paul to anyone looking to explore their personal and professional lives from another angle and who need a change agent. There is no magic pill, and it’s an ongoing process, but I am starting to remove barriers I didn’t know existed, and I’m enjoying the process!

I would highly recommend Paul to anyone looking to hire a life and/or executive coach.

“A Game Changer”

My time with Paul as a life coach has been a game changer. We have worked together on everything from organizational skills, to parenting, to meal planning and health! He is insightful, thoughtful, and excellent at finding the right story, book, quote, or blog post to give a new perspective on a real problem. I was concerned about working over the phone with someone in this capacity, but Paul’s personality and complete attention during every conversation made him feel like an instant friend. As someone going through a career change, several moves, and an ever-increasing demand on my time from multiple fronts, Paul’s coaching helped me focus, prioritize, and ultimately find balance in my life again.

“…a life changing experience.”

I had the pleasure of partnering with Paul Strobl for life coaching. It has been a life changing experience. I have worked with counselors and coaches in the past, but his approach truly worked best for me. He is able to carefully listen and pick the best tools that improve my cognitive reasoning and decision management. He shared books and articles after sessions that helped solidify these concepts. He is also very personable and kind and feels like talking to a wise friend. I frequently reflect back on things I learned from him along the way. I wish him the best in his endeavors, he is passionate about what he does and great at it.

“…helps you to get to your ‘Aha’ moments!”

When I started working with Paul, I was at a point in life where I knew I wanted a change but didn’t quite know how to proceed with making that happen. Also, I was dealing with some past issues that were hindering me from moving forward. During our second meeting, Paul gave me an assignment to do to address one of my past issues. As soon we hung up, I completed that assignment and have been free ever since!! From that point, we begin to navigate the path to the change I was desiring. After each meeting, I made a step toward that change. Today, I am on the path to realizing that change!!  I would highly recommend Paul to anyone looking to hire a life and/or executive coach. He’s a great listener and helps you to get to your ‘Aha’ moments!

“helped me to adjust the lens through which I see myself and the world around me”

I began the experience of life-coaching expecting concrete answers to specific questions. And I didn’t exactly get those answers. BUT in a “teach a man to fish” sense, I did learn some very handy tools to help me approach these (and any future questions) more strategically. Our conversations helped me to adjust the lens through which I see myself and the world around me. So even though I may find myself with my same (or even more!) questions, I feel more confident about my ability to work with them, through them or even love them.

The Career Coaching Process

My process is simple and straight forward.

Step One:  Make Sure We’re Working with “Clean Information”

We will have a conversation where we’ll be “scanning” for unhelpful ways of thinking that are holding you back.  We’ll identify which are most important to address right now, and work to undo them so they’re no longer in your way.

This may include identifying your limiting beliefs – what I call the “gunk” stuck in your filter between your thoughts and the outside world.  Some powerful thought processes are lurking there that were heavily influenced by your culture and upbringing.

Through the coaching conversation, your limiting beliefs will either be completely gone or significantly reduced to a point that they do not affect you in any meaningful way.

Step Two:  Establish a Framework

While many coaches are all about accountability, I want my clients to have their own accountability systems and to develop habits that support it.

Finding the right system to keep you organized and gaining insights into yourself as a process of continuous improvement is essential, not just for the coaching process, but for you to continue to create a life you love.

We’ll find what works for you, whether its part of something you are already doing or starting from scratch.

Step Three:  Prototyping

We’ll evaluate and research the various career trajectories that come out of our work together, without getting another degree or switching to a new company.

Step Four:  Taking Action

Once you have the self-awareness, the system and the knowledge to know the next steps, now it’s time for you to go do it.

I’ll be here for whenever you may get stuck and help you resolve the bottlenecks in the way of success.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Career Coaching?

The coaching conversation is designed to shed light on your blind spots, provide new perspectives, identify your innermost values, and to take action on moving toward a career that is fulfilling and challenges you to be your best self.

The goal is for you, the client, to walk away from a coaching engagement lighter, more focused, confident and with a new set of tools to move forward.

How does a coaching engagement work?

We have a conversation once a week for about an hour. Part of my service is unlimited e-mailing. If something is unclear from a previous session or you want to report a “win” that only your coach will understand, write anytime 24-7. I will answer within 24 hours Monday through Friday. Additionally, expect some “homework” assignments between sessions which are either written or involve taking action.

Am I going to have to talk about my emotions?

Where do you think that “heaviness” comes from? You’re hitting an emotional limitation. Yes, we’re probably going to talk about your emotions if we find that this is one of the factors that is holding back your career.

Deciding what’s next can be a scary proposition as there may be some uncertainty, and we’ll work through it to gain clarity in your next steps.

What if it doesn't work?

If I did my part and you did your part, and somehow things don’t work, I have a 100% money-back guarantee.

What should I expect during a trial session?
