Where do disappointments come from? They emerge from a clash between expectations and reality.
All of us have certain expectations from our loved ones. But when they don’t come through those expectations, you feel hurt.
But the truth is, you can’t control the way people think, feel, or react. You may try to, you may want to, but ultimately, how they act is up to them.
And when you base your feelings of happiness or self-worth on the actions or reactions of other people, you’re setting yourself up for many moments of avoidable misery.
Hoping for a positive outcome is one thing, but trying to force it and being overwhelmed with negative feelings when it doesn’t work out is another.
So, the best thing to do in this scenario is to readjust your expectations. It doesn’t mean that you’re giving them a pass, but that you’re choosing peace over misery.
