Getting past how we view the judgment of others is one of the biggest issues that many people face. Working on our own judgment is part of it. Practicing acceptance is hard to do.

[VIDEO TRANSCRIPT]:

This is one of the hardest thing for most people to get past — what that is, is this idea of what other people think of us; this this critical eye of others, and other people’s opinions.

The Origin of Judgment

Maybe your parents even used it when you were growing up, you know, “Oh what are the neighbors gonna think?” or “what is your father gonna think when he gets home?” Judgmental people are everywhere. This problem regarding the opinion of others, and that it matters.

There’s a quotation often attributed to Winston Churchill (which he never said) but I love it. It’s “When I was 20, I worried what people thought about me. When I was 40, I didn’t care what people thought about me, and when I was 60, I realized nobody was ever thinking about me!

They’re Even Not Thinking of You

I love this because most people are so concerned about what we think of them that they’re not even really thinking about us. The other part of it is we don’t have any control over what other people think. We think we do — we put all this time and energy into our personal PR or marketing campaign of what we say and what we do and what we wear, but at the end of the day, most people are just worried about how they’re gonna be viewed.

The big cosmic joke among humans, for me, is that while we’re worried what other people think of us, everyone else is worried what I think of them… and it’s ridiculous! So once we get past it, once you’re able to undo this whole idea of “how other people view me,” you are free. You are so much more free to be the person you are and not worry about it.

p.s. – If you’d like to “undo” the power that other peoples’ opinions have over you, book some time with me for free to see if I can help!
