I recently gave my son a copy of “Oh, The Place You’ll Go” for his 10th birthday, and as I sat to write him a meaningful note on the inside cover, I couldn’t resist writing my own Dr. Seuss inspired poem. Enjoy!
“Who is You to You?”
Are you ever concerned
About what you are or what you’re not?
Get comfortable in your skin
‘Cause it’s the only one you’ve got!
You’re the only you you have
So hold it nice and tight
Ignore what others do
And stick to what is right!
Your right is righter for you
Than anyone else around
It’s all inside to discover
Your skills and gifts abound.
Sometimes it’s hard to see–
When you can’t see you’re you.
You wonder how to act,
Or what to say or what to do.
You carry a heavy load,
You try your tryingest shot
But you can’t see what you are–
Only what you’re not.
But once the veil is lifted
And the you is there to see,
You can’t unsee the sight
You can only yell “That’s me!”
Worry not about what’s next.
You’ll know just what to do
When you see the thing you are;
When you see the you that’s you!
p.s. – Are you seeing the you that’s you? If you’re not, maybe we should have a chat. There’s no charge. I believe in Dr. Seuss.
