Acceptance is not agreement. It’s simply a starting point. FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) doesn’t help to be more present.

Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)

Our society (and marketing departments with huge budgets) is great at triggering our FOMO.

This video explains one of the most common problems with modern Western thought – that progress is forever, and that something is always missing. By buying into the non-acceptance of what is, you will never “get there”; that place of peace that most people crave.

A Crazy Stranger in Non-Acceptance

Imagine you walk into a mall, and you see that that map with the little dot that reads, “You Are Here.” And somebody walks up next to you, and they say, “Here!? I’m not supposed to be here! I’m supposed to be in the Apple store! What am I doing here!?”

You’d probably think that person is completely crazy, but this is what we do all day long as humans. We think that we should be somewhere other than where we are.

You Should Be Somewhere Else

Maybe you think you should have more money, or you should have a bigger house, or you should find a partner.

The idea that we should be somewhere else is the cause of our suffering. That there’s something missing and that there’s this huge chasm between us and what we should be or should have–that’s what causes us pain.

Acceptance is a choice, and the only option if you want peace.

Acceptance: Be Here

Ram Dass quote

Acceptance is not passive.

So the point here is: be here. From here, you can go anywhere, but start here. Then you have a starting point–you have a place to start for the things you want to change in your life.

You can’t start somewhere else like this guy that thinks he should be in some other store.

We have to start here.
