I’ve always relied on visual analogies in my life coaching in order to drive home key points.

[VIDEO TRANSCRIPT]:

I believe that coaching is like Jenga–it’s like playing Jenga. As a coach, what we’re always doing is we’re trying to ask a question; we’re trying to do something to give a perspective or ask a question that makes somebody think a little bit differently.

Life Coaching Strategy

So when you’re playing Jenga, what do you do? You push on this block here, and you push on that block there. This block doesn’t move. Okay we’ll ask another question–“oh, this block started to move,” so let’s continue down that road and see and see what we get, right?

And then of course you put the block on top, and eventually the stack falls down, which some of my clients ask, “Oh so then everything falls apart at the end of this.” And I say “No, it’s actually your ego that falls apart.”

Once we move enough blocks out of the way, it’s these constructs, these ideas that aren’t helping you move forward–that’s the thing that that falls apart.

Clarity at the End

Once those mental constructs fall apart, you start to get clarity and start moving toward what you really want.

So yeah, life coaching is kind of like playing Jenga.
